The British newspaper The Telegraph has included Malaysia, voted the most loved country in Asia, in its list of 25 destinations not to be missed in 2025, based on the votes of its tourism experts.

“The country offers an impressive variety of different cultures and amazing biodiversity, from spectacular coral reefs to lush rainforests. And then there is the capital, Kuala Lumpur, a city on the rise,” the journalists mention.

This year, Kuala Lumpur will further strengthen its status with the completion of several skyscrapers and hotel projects. These developments are expected to enhance its global reputation as a vibrant and modern metropolis.

Visitors to Malaysia can also enjoy a wide range of festivals and festive events as the country takes over the leadership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.

In addition to Malaysia, two other Asian destinations were part of the top: Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

In Vietnam, tourists are encouraged to visit Ho Chi Minh City for concerts, cultural events and fireworks displays, while also exploring the historical and cultural sights of Hanoi and Hoi An. Vietnam welcomed nearly 16 million international visitors by November 2024, while Malaysia, named by a survey by US finance website Insider Monkey as the most loved country in Asia, welcomed 22.5 million tourists in the same period.

Italy, Colombia, Switzerland, Australia and Ireland among the preferences

To compile this top, The Telegraph asked for the recommendations of tourism experts, who proposed destinations relatively unexplored and safe from “over-tourism”.

The selection took into account several factors, including atmosphere, culture, accommodation, flight routes, ease of access and price. The list includes destinations for all types of budgets, from simple vacation packages to luxury vacations.

Other destinations included in the top are Italy, Colombia, Switzerland, Australia and Ireland.
