Tuition fees at the faculties of Medicine have increased. How much will the students who do not get a place in the budget pay

Tuition fees at some state medical colleges have been hiked. In Bucharest, for example, “Carol Davila” announced a 30% increase in costs for students who will not be included in the budget in the fall.

Students who will start the Faculty of Medicine or Dentistry at “Carol Davila” University in Bucharest in the fall will pay 19,000 lei for a fee-paying place, instead of 15,000 lei as it is now.

The increase was approved in the University Senate meeting, and the decision was made after an analysis of the inflation rate, the increase in administrative expenses and student scholarships. Professor Viorel Jinga, rector of “Carol Davila” University in Bucharest, stated that the last tax increase took place 4 years ago. At the same time, in some programs the number of paid places will increase, while in others there will be more places financed from the budget. An example is that of the Faculty of Midwifery and Medical Assistance, where there will be 107 more places in the budget.

And at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara, an increase in fees is being taken into account, from 10,000 to 12,000 lei, for the same study programs. In Craiova, on the other hand, where last year the tax for general medicine increased from 10,000 to 13,000 thousand lei, another increase is not considered for the time being.

In general, for a place in the budget, the state pays universities 6,620 lei this school year. These fees are for Romanian or foreign students from the European Union, who are enrolled in Romanian language programs. For those who choose programs in English or French, the fees are higher.
