How to take antibiotics without destroying your stomach. A doctor’s advice

Antibiotic treatments affect the intestinal flora, and given that there is a sensitive balance between bacteria, viruses and fungi in the body, any antibiotic treatment should be accompanied by a probiotic as well as an antifungal. It is the advice of a surgeon for all those undergoing such treatment.

The flu and respiratory viruses that circulate during this period can lead to complications that often require antibiotic treatment. But they must be administered carefully because they can destroy the intestinal flora, and then we wake up with other conditions, in addition to the initial one, which we are treating.

“The human microbiome in general can be divided into several areas: oral, gastrointestinal, skin, breast, lung. First and foremost it is a protective factor, because it protects the body from bacteria that could multiply and cause infections or other more serious things. Of course, when it is affected either by the decrease in immunity, or by the appearance of a wound, or by antibiotic treatment, or by a crazy diet, it can go crazy and produce infections and problems as well, especially if the antibiotic treatments do not they are targeted for the area and the bacteria that cause us the infection and often they are also very harmful to the microbiome we have”, said surgeon Alexandru Onofrei.

He emphasized that, given the conditions in which there is “a very sensitive balance between bacteria, viruses and fungi” in the body, any antibiotic treatment should also be accompanied by a probiotic and an antifungal.

“Somehow I understood this initiative of the Government to use special recipes and to greatly reduce the consumption of antibiotics, but, unfortunately, Romanians manage because that’s how we are and we still make ends meet. It’s true that sometimes that cold doesn’t go away and ok, I took some antibiotic pills and miraculously, it went away. Many times it is just a coincidence, many times maybe it really is also a bacterial component and then I did well to take antibiotics. The antibiotic should never be taken without a probiotic and often it should also be taken with an antifungal, precisely to protect the fungal flora or not to make it grow when the bacterial flora decreases. It is a very sensitive balance between bacteria, viruses and fungi in the body”, added the doctor.
