“We are talking about a theft, as such the Netherlands has the duty to identify the thieves and to render Romania the stolen treasure pieces. I am absolutely convinced that at the level of police cooperation there is a maximum mobilization for catching thieves.
The exhibits arrived at the Museum in the Netherlands on the basis of a project initiated by the National History Museum of Romania, with the opinion of the National Commission of Museums and Collections. The exhibition is part of a broad effort of cultural diplomacy, carried out by Romanian museums, which began years ago through the exhibition in Madrid (2021), followed by the one from Rome (2024) ”, said the former minister.
Further, this discusses the fact that 18 museums in Romania contributed to the exhibition at the Dates Museum, one of the oldest in Europe. Such projects, according to the former minister, are quite frequent in the European space.
“The training involved a significant effort from 18 museums in Romania and the Museum Museum (for the Netherlands), one of the oldest and most prestigious museums in Europe. The Drents Museum had the contractual obligation to provide special security measures, which were implemented according to international standards in the field.
I mention that the Ministry of Culture does not decide on the content of the collections presented in exhibitions. Any temporary export approval of cultural goods (exhibitions abroad) is made only with the opinion of the specialists in the National Commission of Museums and Collections.
Such projects are common in the European cultural space. Romania was also beneficiaries to exhibitions of an exceptional value brought by cultural institutions from abroad, the last example being the exhibition “Caravaggio’s lights”, still in the Museum of Art in Timisoara”, Turcan concluded.
On Saturday, January 25, pieces from the Dacian treasure were stolen from the Museum Museum. At 3:45 in the morning, an explosion was heard inside the museum.
“The explosion broke several windows, allowing thieves to enter the museum“, Said Debby Homans, justice officer, during a press conference that took place on the spot
