The former diplomat has published an editorial entitled “Agonia of Romania” in I OBSIVER.
“Romania has been a lot in the news lately, and the news is not good. Much of attention focused on the so-called Tiktok controversy, in which Russian secret services intervened in recent elections to promote his favorite candidate. There is substantial evidence that this has happened in fact“He wrote.
Mark Gitenstein referred to the CCR decision to annul the presidential elections that he described as “an act as extraordinarily as worrying”.
Former US ambassador to Romania in the Obama administration, between August 2009 and December 2012, Gitenstein acknowledges that in the last three years he has been in this country, but that he has “frequent connection” with several people in the country.
He also states that he “shares” the “deep” concern regarding the foreign interference and states that he supports the investigations carried out by the European Commission on the Digital Services Act and by the Romanian Government regarding the violation of the electoral legislation.
“The far right, the autochthonists and the Russian trolls will continue to shake the spirits in Romania and other EU Member States“, Is the opinion of the former ambassador, who added:”The European Commission should complete and publish the conclusions of its investigation into Russia’s interference before voters return to the ballot box. Likewise, the Romanian authorities should report on their investigation into violation of electoral legislation ”.
His conclusion is that: “Now is the time to act, in Romania, in Central and Eastern Europe and in the United States. Because what is happening in Romania will eventually affect us all. As President Reagan said in his last year of mandate, referring to Europe: “Keeping a peaceful, free and democratic Europe is essential for keeping the United States peaceful, free and democratic””.
Trump’s emissary contradicts him
Richard Grenell, former director of the National Intelligence Services and Special Issue of President Trump, suggested that the Biden administration tried to influence the recent elections in Romania.
He claimed that USAID, the American Agency for External Assistance, was used to support candidates and left -level initiatives, Romania being the latest example.
The Trump administration has repeatedly expressed distrust in USAID, accusing the agency of using public funds to promote a political agenda.
