The “electric storm” who saved the life of a patient with acute myocardial infarction. Procedure was used for the first time in Romania

A 62-year-old patient with acute myocardial infarction was saved through a medical procedure, for the first time in Romania, by a team of doctors from the Heart Institute in Cluj-Napoca.

“This week at the Cluj-Napoca heart Institute, the first ventricular tachycardia (electrical storm) is performed with hemodynamic support (ECMO). Thanks to those who made it possible for such interventions to be performed in our hospital and those who have been directly or indirectly involved in the procedure ”wrote Dr. Răzvan Mada, on fb.

The patient arrived at the Heart Institute in Cluj with acute myocardial infarction, with a fairly late presentation, after 24 hours after the onset of symptoms. According to the doctor Răzvan Mada, he was given all the standard procedures.

“Initially it was a bin, but it began to make life -threatening arrhythmia, repeated ventricular tachycardia, which did not respond to drugs. (…) He came to be intubated to calm down from an electrical point of view. “said Răzvan Mada, for Agerpres.

What is the “electric storm”

The patient’s condition continued to get worse. Thus, the medical team has established to resort to the procedure called ventricular tachycardia ablation (electric storm) with hemodynamic support (ECMO).

“The only solution to save it was a more special procedure, called ventricular tachycardia ablation (electrical storm), which is practically the most complex and difficult procedure in electrophysiology, with the highest degree of complexity and risk”, explained Dr. Răzvan Mada.
