Eduard Novak, 48, announced his candidacy for the Presidency of the National Paralympic Committee.
Eduard Novak wants a new leadership position in Romanian sport
Former Minister of Sport, Eduard Novak, announced on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the intention to apply for the Presidency of the National Paralympic Committee (CNP), considering that the Paralympic sport does not enjoy support from the state.
“Dear friends, in the context of the elections within the National Paralympic Committee, I decided to take an important new step, namely to apply to continue the fight for Romanian sport! Sport is an essential element for inclusion, offering a variety of opportunities. However, at the governmental level, the Paralympic sport does not enjoy support. And this is seen in the statistical data. (…) In Romania there are 900,000 people with disabilities. They, people with disabilities, are a burden for the state. But in reality, they are a resource. A state resource that deserves to be treated at its true value!“Novak said on his Facebook page.
Novak wants people with disabilities in Romania to have as many access to sports facilities. He was until last year the only paralimpic champion in the history of Romania, a medal obtained in cycling in London in 2012. It still has three other medals, silver in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Tokyo 2020.
Former Minister of Sport between 2020 and 2023, Novak candidate without success for the parliamentary elections of 2024 at the Chamber of Deputies from the Hungarian Democratic Union in Romania (UDMR).
British Sally Wood Lamont resigned in January as president of the CNP, which he has held since 2009.
