Invited to the Insider Insider on Prima TV, Ciolacu insisted on the atmosphere of collegiality in the party and said that the PSD is currently “a normal party”.
“More than sure, none of those who will ask for my resignation will be (no president). It was a joke. Secondly, I succeeded, and I proudly say, to have a friendly and collegial relationship with my colleagues. And let’s say things. Campaign and at the headquarters of Mr. Crin Antonescu, as is normal, because we were talking about the organization. said the current prime minister.
Asked if Mihai Tudose or Sorin Grindeanu could take over the management of the formation, Ciolacu avoided a direct answer:
“There are a lot of colleagues and colleagues who can be president. I should not give me names. After I will not be, I will certainly not get involved in supporting someone. He knows the PSD better. The PSD must work alone. He knows how to choose his president.”
The social-democratic leader also made an analysis of the possible post-election scenarios. If the candidate supported by the PSD, Crin Antonescu, will not win, Ciolacu claims that the party has two clear options: either it remains in government, but with the position of prime minister or goes into the opposition.
“When the PSD, after winning the elections, goes into the opposition, it means that in Cotroceni is Klaus Iohannis,” he said, referring to the situation of 2020, when the PSD won the parliamentary elections, but was excluded from the government.
At the same time, Ciolacu understood that he takes into account a possible withdrawal from the position of prime minister, but only after checking two essential objectives for Romania: the accession to the OECD and the completion of the National Plan of Redress and Resilitis (PNRR). Both objectives are scheduled for the end of 2026.
“What I can tell you: I will think about whether or not I leave the position of prime minister after Romania adheres to the OECD and after I complete the PNRR. By 2026. I put these projects. The end of 2026-would be the OECD and the PNRR I think in the middle of 2026 we begin to complete things,” said Marcel Ciolacu.
