«The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (Gold) concentrates its efforts on two essential fronts for defending democratic principles and fundamental rights of Romanian citizens. On the first front, Gold appreciates that the judge of the Ploiești Court of Appeal, who pronounced the decision of April 24, 2025 regarding the suspension of the execution and the annulment of the CCR Decision no. 32/2024 acted according to his own legal beliefs and in the spirit of the law. We unconditionally support the independence of the judicial system as a fundamental pillar in an authentic democracy. In a period when the balance between the state powers is seriously compromised, the defense of the independence of the judges becomes essential to remove Romania from the category of “hybrid regime”. At the same time, we are preparing a series of actions meant to restore democracy in Romania »he sent gold in a press release.
The party also announced a request challenging the provisions of GEO no. 1/2025 regarding the organization of the elections in 2025, asking for the CCR notification: “On the second front, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (gold) announces that today, the Bucharest Court of Appeal admitted the notification of the Constitutional Court of Romania, formulated by our party, regarding the unconstitutionality of the provisions of GEO no. regardless of where they exercise their fundamental right to vote ”.
“Our notification concerns a concrete and deeply insane problem for the Romanians in the Diaspora: GEO no. 1/2025 required the closure of all the polling stations abroad at 9:00 pm, regardless of the local time zone. For the Romanians living in the USA, Canada or Latin America, this provision would have meant that the Romanian sections would be in the morning. He could only vote until 11:00 in the morning, in New York until 14:00, and in Buenos Aires until 3:00 pm.
Imagine what it would be like if in Romania the polling stations would close at 11:00 in the morning! Many Romanians from the diaspora also work on Saturdays, and Sunday is the only day when they could vote. In addition, many of them have to travel hundreds of kilometers to the nearest polling station. These restrictions would have practically deprived thousands of Romanians of the fundamental right to vote. It is not about legal techniques, but about respecting an essential right in democracy – the right to vote under fair conditions, regardless of where you are ”, also transmitted the political formation.
The party also reported that “If the Constitutional Court will admit the exception of unconstitutionality, the Romanians from the Diaspora will be able to vote under equal conditions, without discrimination based on the geographical area in which they are. The polling stations will remain open until 9:00 pm, allowing all citizens to exercise their constitutional right. Romanian from all over the world in the electoral process and will strengthen the legitimacy of the results of the elections.
GEO no. 1/2025 establishes the measures of organizing and conducting the elections in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ordinance also changes the program of the elections. The vote abroad will take place on 3 days. The first day of voting abroad will be May 2, 2025, between 7:00 and 21:00. The second day of voting in the diaspora will be May 3, 2025, between 7:00 and 21:00. The third day of voting abroad will be on May 4, 2025, between 7:00 and 21:00, Romania time.
“Both steps reflect the same fundamental vision of gold: the defense of the state of democratic law, of the independence of justice and the constitutional rights of all Romanian citizens”, He pointed out.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal decided to admit the request for the CCR’s referral, but rejected the request to suspend the case: “Admits the request to refer the Constitutional Court regarding the exception of unconstitutionality of Art. 5, paragraph (1) The final thesis and art.7 of GEO no. pronouncement.is shown in the court of the court, according to News.
We recall that on Thursday, April 24, a judge from the Ploiești Court of Appeal accepted the appeal regarding the suspension of the decision of the Constitutional Court (CCR) to annul the presidential elections taken on December 6, 2024. According to the decision published on the portal of the Ministry of Justice, the decision is not final.
