A panel hit a woman at Halle’s tennis tournament. The incident is unique in the 32 -year history of the competition

Panic at the male tennis tournament in Halle, Germany, where a panel broke and hit a woman, injuring her.

The woman had medical care needs

The incident took place on the central field of the ATP 500 tournament from Halle. At the end of the first set, while the Marcos Giron (31 years old, 43 ATP) was struggling to stay in the match against the German Alexander Zverev (the match ended with the score 6-2 6-1 for the 28-year-old German, on the 3rd place of the ATP), an advertising banner was detached from the central tribune and a woman on top.

Fortunately, the woman, 62, did not suffer serious injuries and left the stadium with an ice bag on her neck. Even Zverev offered the woman’s ice, which was taken, as a precaution, to the Local Hospital.

In an official statement, the director of the tournament, Ralf Weber, apologized to the woman and those present: “Nothing similar has ever happened in the 32 -year history of our tour, we sincerely apologize for the incident”.

The same Weber then promised it, as a compensatory gesture, a free subscription for the next edition of the tournament.

After the end of the match between Zverev and Giron, all the advertising panels on the central land were inspected, to prevent the episode.
