High school graduates have managed to achieve comparable results with those of previous years. The general promotion rate before the appeals is 74.3% (compared to 76.4%, before the appeals, at the 2024 baccalaureate), with a successful rate below the last year for the candidates in the current promotion (79.9% now, compared to 81.5%: June – July 2024) and one slightly over the one of 2024 for the previous ones (324 31.9% in 2024).

The discussion should instead go on, believes Bartic, because what represents the baccalaureate today, organized after a 1998 law, obviously outdated, influences admission to higher education.

When that law was given, the baccalaureate had to establish the completion of the high school cycle, because then, for admission to the faculty, there were other exams. Now the role of the baccalaureate has changed, but we have not changed the exam ”, draws the attention of Gabi Bartic.
“The evaluation of only four disciplines makes no sense”
As soon as we use the baccalaureate examination as admission exam in higher education, it should be changed so as to test higher knowledge and skills, necessary for the future student, “And that would mean working transversely with information, being able to have critical reflection on information and so on.”explains Bartic.
What is succeeded in the present is the encouragement of students to a schematic, “template” approach, of the subject, for the dry reproduction of the memorized ones.
“If we had the courage to change the baccalaureate exam, I have the courage to bet that the entire high school education system would change, because we are very good at Teaching & Learning to the test, that is, adapting teaching and learning. XII. Gabi Bartic continued.
