Bilbor – tranquility, mineral springs and traditional food.
If you are looking for an authentic escape, far from daily agitation, Bilbor is the perfect place. Located in the north of Harghita County, Bilbor impresses with his clean air and richness in mineral springs. But this is not all -it is the kind of place that does not appear (yet) on all the tourist lists, but which remains in your soul precisely through its natural simplicity and beauty.
The houses are scattered, nature is authentic, and the tranquility … hard to describe in words. If the road of only 4 km to Vatra Dornei were rehabilitated, the area would have a huge tourist potential. At the moment there are not many large investments, apart from the Bilbor mineral bottling factory. But there are good signs: young people, open, eager to put the bilber on the map of Romanian tourism.
A place that really deserves a stop is the local gastronomic point House VLC, a family initiative that offers an authentic culinary experience. The menu is made up of local products, prepared according to traditional recipes: cheeses, broths, balls, stews, smokes, home desserts – all depending on the season and why it is fresh in the household.
It is not a classic restaurant, but a warm experience, like grandparents – an opportunity to support the local community and enjoy a sincere meal, with real tastes.
Toplița – summer bob, riding and relaxation nearby.
Only a toss of Bilbor is Toplița, a tourist destination that has greatly improved its offer in recent years, especially due to private investments. Although known in the past especially for the waterfall with mesothermal water that is one of the unique tourist attractions in our country, being one of the two waterfalls in Europe, along with that in Saturnia (Italy) Banffy Banffy and the ski slopes, Toplița has become more attractive.
The main attraction is the Summer Bob slope, with a length of almost 2 km – the longest in Romania at the present time. Located in the Baciu field, near the ski slope, it offers a partial path through the forest, where the sled can reach up to 45 km/h (but the speed can be controlled). The complete circuit lasts about 10 minutes, and the prices are accessible (15–20 lei/tour), with discounts for more descents. It will work including winter.
Also in the Baciu area there is the Center for Leading, with well -cared ways and a relaxing atmosphere. Whether you choose a lesson in a handle or a walk in nature, the prices vary between 60 and 80 lei.
For winter sports lovers, Toplița offers 3 slopes – one average and two lightweight – equipped with ski lifts, snow and night cannons. An interesting alternative to classic ski resorts.
For swimmers two basins with mesothermal water and a wellness center.
You can also visit the church of the “Holy Prophet Ilie” Monastery, which was built of spruce wood, in 1847.
The conclusion?
If you feel that the routine is pressing you, a getaway in the bilber and the surroundings can be exactly what you need. There is no strict agglomeration or program here – only beautiful roads, welcoming people and an increasingly rare authenticity. Harghita retains her clean air and specific silence, and summer is the perfect time to discover it.
Bilbor and, in addition, Toplița, are two stops that are worth the full. You will not find luxurious resorts, but you will find peace, fresh air and feeling that you have discovered an authentic corner of Romania.
