A woman from Sfântu Gheorghe turned her dream after 52 years: to become a college graduate. Maria Movilă is 73 years old and has completed the studies in the specialization of environmental engineering, within the extension in Sfântu Gheorghe of Babeș -Bolyai University.

After finishing high school in 1973, at 18, Maria Movilă was forced to give up the idea of going with her studies due to the responsibilities of everyday life.
“I finished high school in 1973, then there was no computer science or presentations. I had a lot to recover and went through health problems, but colleagues and teachers supported me”, Maria told WE Radio Sfântu Gheorghe.
After a career in dental technique and years of involvement in the community, Maria realized that she needs a university degree to fulfill another dream: to set up an association for environmental protection. Thus, in 2022, he settled for the first time in the banks of the faculty, along with students with decades younger.
The years of study have not been lacking in challenges. In the third year, Maria faced health problems. It was close to give up, but the support of teachers and colleagues, together with the relaxation exercises recommended by a doctor, helped her go further.
“In the third year I had many problems: I broke a hand, and the other was injured by a second-hand clothes container from Caritas-I crushed my fingers. I wanted to freeze my studies. But the teachers did not leave me, my colleagues supported me, and at the advice of a doctor I started to go to the doctor. Which is about the relationship between people and bears, and how the conflicts between them can be managed ”, she said.
“I wash the dishes and hair with rainwater, I use waste water in the toilet, recycle, I take care of the animals. Now I know what laws I can invoke when it comes to the protection of the environment. The knowledge acquired in the faculty will be of great use to me,” she added.
Maria Movilă is now preparing to support her last step before setting up her own environmental association.
Another recent example of ambition is the case of Ioana Păduraru Rusu, who graduated from 75 years old, after attending the evening courses of a high school in Neamț County.
