The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, told Romania TV on Monday that the future Congress of the Party will take place “More than sure this fall.”
Grindeanu mentioned that, beyond the issues related to leadership, the party must focus on clarifying the doctrinal identity and emphasized again that he does not believe in “Surveys made by others before congresses”.
“We are now around 20%, where we have to start growing. (…) I am more Taliban than Marcel Ciolacu. This does not mean that there can be no various currents in PSD, which can have greater or lesser support. It can exist, as it was in the time of Liviu Dragnea, a strong more patriotic current. European, if you want, as it was in the time of Mircea Geoană (…) ”,
said Sorin Grindeanu, quoted by Agerpres.
Social Democrat also said that the PSD must avoid registering in line of classical European socialist parties.
“The PSD must have its specificity in Romania, as I had in the last 30 years, even if I have been a left party and we are a left party. This is what I want from Congress: to have this clarification and it is absolutely normal to have this doctrinal clarification for the future years”, Grindeanu added.

“Obviously there is the option not to apply”

“We’ll see. Sincere. Obviously there is the option not to apply. “
The interim leader of the Social Democrats also said that the failure recorded by the PSD in the last presidential elections clearly demonstrate that things need to be changed.
“I understood the reason why Marcel Ciolacu wanted to bring a new line in the party (…), because he wanted to widen the base. (…) The proof that he did not judge very well in the fact that I did not have the success we wanted in the elections. Vice-presidents, first vice-presidents, general secretaries.‘said Sorin Grindeanu.
