On Friday, July 18, 2025, the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, makes an official visit to Germany, at the invitation of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The Romanian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister Dragoș Anastasiu and the ministers Oana Țoiu (external), Ionuț Moșteanu (defense) and Radu Miruță (economy), along with USR president, Dominic Fritz.

During the visit, the head of the Romanian state will meet both with the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The agenda includes bilateral discussions on strengthening cooperation in strategic fields, especially defense, security, energy and auto industry.

Strategic relationship between Romania and Germany

The president will also participate in a meeting with representatives of the German business environment, but also in a meeting with the members of the Romanian community in Germany.

Dominic Fritz said the purpose of the visit is “To strengthen bilateral relations, to defend Romania’s security through better collaboration in the defense industry and to increase prosperity with higher investments in the private sector.”

According to the Presidential Administration, the visit reflects the excellent, strategic relations between Romania and Germany, based on a bilateral, European and ally, but also solid historical and human links between the two states.

The conversations will be focused on extending the Romanian-German collaboration in priority areas, with an emphasis on economic initiatives and investment projects in sectors such as defense, energy, auto and heavy industry. Also, topics related to coordination in European and security affairs will be addressed.
