Nicuşor Dan, message for the German diaspora: “There are no more Romanians”

In an official visit to Germany, President Nicuşor Dan also met with some of the Romanians from the Diaspora, who told them that “there are no more Romanians” and that you say that you are from Romania “is a thing of praise” in Europe.

President Nicușor Dan had a meeting with Romanians from Germany on Friday, July 18, during an official visit to Berlin. From the Romanian delegation were the deputy prime ministers of Dragoș Anastasiu and Ionuț Moșteanu, the Minister of Defense, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Economy, Radu Miruță, the presidential councilors Luminița Odobescu and Radu Burnete, the mayor of Timișoara Dominic Fritz, the Romanian Ambassador, Ovidiu Ganț, representative of the German minority in Parliament.

“There are no more Romanians”

During the discussions with the Romanians present at the headquarters of the Romanian Embassy, Nicușor Dan stressed that the Romanian state still has many things to improve in the relationship with the Diaspora, especially in terms of consular services and access to the Romanian language, where it is requested.

“But I think that the most important thing that, at least so I think, we have to do is understand that there are no more Romanians and that we are responsible for you and that we must consider you in this way, as if you are part of the Romanian state”, said Nicușor Dan, quoted by ProTV.

The president also added that a close collaboration between the structures of the Romanian state and the Romanian organizations in the Diaspora is essential to capitalize on the potential of this community.

“To say that you are from Romania is a thing of praise in Europe, you represent a resource and we should be able to use this resource in common interest, to manage to collaborate between structures in Romania with structures of Romanians in the diaspora,” The president at the Romanian Embassy in Berlin.

Romanian diaspora, a support for Romania

The ambassador of Romania in Germany, Adriana Stănescu, mentioned that the meeting were invited representatives of the Romanian associations, personalities of the Romanian community and former German diplomats who have collaborated with Romania over time.

“As you know, the Romanian diaspora in Germany is very large, there are over one million Romanian citizens living in this country. Today’s visit to Mr. President, in addition to the political-diplomatic component and the meeting with businessmen, had as main component this meeting with you.” He pointed out the ambassador.

Discussions with German investors

Previously, President Nicușor Dan had a meeting with German businessmen, organized by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and by the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce (AHK), participating representatives of some companies, defense industry, IT and retail.

In this context, Nicuşor Dan presented the advantages that Romania offers foreign investors, such as well -qualified workforce, better connections with Western Europe and the significant potential for energy resources.

According to the Presidential Administration, Romania is interested in long -term German investments, including in partnerships with local entrepreneurs, and the reforms to which the Government has been employed will make the country “much more attractive” for the business environment.
