The boy should represent the country at the China International Competition, scheduled for the middle of August. Although he was born in the peninsula, he has no Italian citizenship, and his situation has become a reason for national debate, writes Digi24.
His teachers say he is a glittering young man, with remarkable results especially in chemistry, and that he far exceeded all competitors.
The student speaks Italian, but with a slight accent from Sardinia, he knows the Constitution, say the teachers, and should receive emergency citizenship to go to China.
An official application in this regard has already been sent to the ministry.
His case became a political subject, given that the theme of migration and nationalism is a central one in Italy.
In this sense, the opposition requires that the boy be granted immediately, in order to represent Italy at the International Olympics. The reaction of the government led by the right-wing parties of Giorgie Meloni and Matteo Salvini, which are not known for supporting pro-migration policies is expected.
