The race for the Capital City Hall could bring a new moment of coalition, in the context in which two parties could be directly confronted for the legacy of Nicușor Dan.

Former USR chief Cătălin Drulă announces that he wants to run for the elections for the Capital City Hall and that he told President Nicușor Dan, but there are some procedures to perform before being formalized.
On the footsteps of Nicușor Dan
“We also have some stages to go to USR, our internal procedures, but more than that, we would like to have a wider candidacy in Bucharest, with a support of a common candidate from PNL and USR. The presidents of the two parties, Ilie Bolojan and Dominic Fritz, also said, that they want this, to have a younger candidate. Reformist ”said Cătălin Drulă.
It hasn’t been long since another former candidate said he wanted to support more parties to win a mandate at the Capital City Hall. This is Nicușor Dan, who last year, before the local elections in June, said he wanted to support a right -wing coalition. He failed to convince PNL and so he did not have a support of the big parties. He won the second term with the support of USR, PMP and the strength of the right. Now the post remained vacant after the president followed the path of Cotroceni Palace, where, also, he benefited from the support of the same formations, to which they were joined.
Now these parties could support their support to a candidate supported by President Nicușor Dan. In fact, if Cătălin Drulă will have the support of USR and Nicușor Dan, then he leaves an advantage over the other candidates, including a possible counter -candidate, if the coalition parties do not decide on a common candidacy.
A “subtle” message
Nicușor Dan’s reaction, who said that Drulă could be a good candidate for the Capital City Hall, has already lit voices from the PNL. The Liberals have at least two possible candidates, and both reacted according to the signal of the head of state. “I have seen – and lived – this movie. Many, too many desires of functions. Few, too few leaders with vision and solutions for Bucharest. Again and again, the policy of Dâmbovițea becomes a sad contest of political ballet ”, says Sebastian Burduja.
Another reaction came from the mayor of Sector 6, Ciprian Ciucu, who was also short: “Subtle. Success”.
Nicușor Dan on Wednesday, July 30, a meeting with the former Minister and President of USR Cătălin Drula, after which he was asked if he fulfills the profile of a mayor of the Capital. The answer given was “sure, yes”.
“I discussed with Mr. Drula many things in particular to the transport in Bucharest. You know he’s passionate about this matter. (…) C.Red that someone who has transport expertise is welcome in these choices“were the clarifications made by the head of state in a press conference, continuing to argue that there are elections for the management of the City Hall.
More candidates
And Sorin Grindeanu, the interim president of the PSD, said since May that his party will have his own candidate for the City Hall. Thus, three coalition parties could come up with a different candidate. The coalition agreed on the organization of the elections for the position of mayor of the Capital in November, that is, after the PSD Congress, in which the new leadership of the party will be established which could decide the exit from the government.
The message of the head of state “is unequivocal”, with all this race for the Capital City Hall is not yet established, says political analyst Adrian Zăbavă. He points out, however: “In this battle in Bucharest, let us not forget that USR and PNL are fighting for the legacy of Nicușor Dan, who became the mayor of the capital being supported by USR and PNL. It is true that the second time PNL chose another candidate, but in a special situation. Nicușor Dan had the tacit support of at least one part of the PNL, so if we are to discuss a possible conflict or a controversy born in the coalition, following the elections at the City Hall, I think it will be born between PNL and USR, because both will be the Capital City Hall and they are justified to receive Nicușor..
If he does not bring a departure, the electoral struggle in the Capital could produce at least “signs” in the relationship between the ruling parties, points out the analyst. “Given the importance of the function and visibility of that campaign, if all these parties will have separate candidates, there will be a fight that will produce consequences. I do not think that this coalition can break due to a political struggle in Bucharest, but this fight leaves signs ”explains Adrian Zăbavă.
An example is the former PSD-PNL governance, parties under the leadership of the former candidates in the presidential elections Nicolae Ciuca and Marcel Ciolacu, whose relationship was damaged in the executive with the presidential race. Previously, just a few months before, the two formations managed to go through the elections in the Capital, but they lost the election, after passing from a common candidate to separated candidates.
