The 20th edition of the International Animest Animest Festival comes to Bucharest with the theme of the trip, after last year almost 16,000 spectators rediscovered the city with the guests. The event is organized between October 3 and 12.

The anniversary, celebrated by travel

The journey invites the public to discover it by the force of stories and animated art. Some travelers turn steps into kilometers, others, words into scenarios, while some of them transform ideas into reality and then into history.

Animest.20 subscriptions: Ten Stops and Full Trip can be purchased from the Eventbook platform. The desires will also have Full Trip Pass subscriptions, which guarantee a complete festival experience, ensuring unlimited access to all projections, concerts and special events in the edition program. However, the latter are available in a limited number of 50.

“20 editions have passed, but the emotion of the first independent animation film designed in the cinema in 2006, with the Archiplina Hall, is still well imprinted in the mind. Animest was and remains a journey with the soul, along with an audience who accompanied us year by year, who grew up with us and we always motivated us. The reaction in the room gave us the courage to move on.transmits Mihai Mitrică, the director of the festival.

“Gulliver’s Travels”, “An American Tail” and other short films

This year’s theme is not only a metaphor for ANIMEST in these 20 years, but also an invitation to filmmakers to join a new adventure, discovering films that will wear them through the most unexpected places. These include the classic animation “Gulliver’s Travels” (Dave Fleischer, 1939), a timeless odyssey that transcends the borders of the imagination, nominated to the Oscar for the best soundtrack and for the best original song (“Faithful Forever”).

Another classic, the old American Tail’s cult film (r. Don Bluth, 1986), also nominated for Oscar for the best original song (“Somewhere Out There”), proposes to the spectators an exciting journey, looking for a better life, losing and finding the family, adapting to a new culture and solidarity.

The thematic selection also includes numerous short films that explore the diversity of the senses. From the dream and enigmatic universe proposed by “Rosto in the Red” (2018), to the cultural and visual journey of Madagascar, of “Journey Diary” (2010) created by Bastien Dubois, each film is a destination in itself. The public is invited to be carried by the subtle narratives of “Somewhere Down the Line” (r. Julien Regnard, 2014), but also to explore the intelligent humor and aesthetics of Nicolas Menard in “Wednesday with Goddard” (2016).

As the public has already become accustomed, the thematic short films curated by the director and coach of the festival, Mihai Mitrică, along with the French journalist and film historian Alexis Hunot, come with a specific sound universe. This year the hits that are listened to in the travel playlist are “where my mind”, “Around the World”, “Over the Rainbow” (Judey Garland) and “The Passenger” (Iggy Pop).

“What better way to celebrate a anniversary if not by a trip? This year’s selection is an invitation to experience all kinds of travelers. Sometimes you need little to go on the road. Everything can only be in your mind, it is enough to put your feet in the air and head on the ground and take a psyche By Anikó Takács, take Marko Mestrovic’s cork to reach the end of the world or you could lift yourself as abstract shapes in Slowly Rising, the video animated by Hideki Inaba. The pines like in the opinions, the film of Anton and Damian Groves. Snopek ”says Alexis Hunot.

A quilt of memories

Created by the Romanian contemporary artist Saddo, known for his ability to juggle between canvas painting, large murals and illustrations for brands, mixing various influences from masters such as Rousseau and Matisse to Iranian miniatures and urban culture. Made by Saddo with the support of Sorin Traistaru (Graphic Design, Typography), the visual is designed in the form of a “quilt” that aggregates in a vibrant mosaic graphic elements from the previous editions of the Animest Festival – from creations of illustrators such as Tuan Nini, Irina Şelaru and Oksana Kurmaz, to the Suggestions, to the Suggestions, to the Suggestions, collaborators and volunteers.

“For me the most frightening briefs are the ones in which I have the freedom to do what I want. I was very happy when Filip wrote to me (Bănişor-the executive director) to propose to make the official visual for the Animest anniversary edition, but when he told me what I want to say ‘no, no … give me any suggestions. They include elements of as many visuals or trailers from the Animest past, as well as elements in the backstage of the festival.

The general idea is that of Quilt or Spider-Web, with the Animest sheep in the middle, from which different stories, rhythms, elements of the past, all organized and compartmentalized in such a way that the visual can be reorganized or cut on several formats and make sense. “said Saddo.
