Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia, 49, died while trying to save a colleague in difficulty. The member Milanese was surprised by a storm and died due to brain edema and hypothermia.
Luca Sinigaglia was working in the IT field
Luca Sinigaglia, a Milanese mountaineer with a long passion for the big mountains of Central Asia, lost his life on Pik Pobeda, the highest peak in the Tian Shan Mountains, on the border between Kyrgyzstan and China. He died while trying to rescue an alpinist in difficulty, who was injured during a descent.
Sinigaglia worked for a cyber security company and had strong bonds with Kyrgyzstan and its mountains. He lost his life as he tried to save Natalia Nagovițina, 47, a Russian climber who was injured while descending from Pik Pobeda.
Russoica lost her husband on the mountain
It all started on August 12, when Natalia Nagovițina fell, suffering a foot fracture. Unable to move with a little food and water, he had to wait for help. Three days later, on August 15, Luca Sinigaglia and German mountaineer Gunter Siegmund managed to reach her, bringing her first aid elements: a sleeping bag, a stove, food and an oxygen mask. As he tried to complete the rescue operation, however, Sinigaglia was surprised by a violent storm. The harsh conditions and exhaustion caused him a brain edema, aggravated by hypothermia.
His body remained in a cave, at 6,800 meters. Siegmund was later hospitalized, while rescuers are still trying to save Nagovițina. In 2021, Nagovițina lost her husband, Sergei, Khan Tengri, also in Tian Shan, following a fatal stroke, almost 7,000 meters. She stayed with him to the end, returning the following year to reveal a plaque in his memory.
