Former PNL leader, Crin Antonescu, returns to the foreground through an interview with the weekly Cațavencii in which he expresses his dissatisfaction with the current leadership of Romania.
Asked about what Romania can do in the tense regional context caused by the military conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Crin Antonescu said that the Bucharest Administration is not capable of something.
“Romania should consolidate its place in NATO, developing its own defense capabilities. In this regard, it is even painful to discuss, as long as the current leadership of Romania does not seem able to sign modest, as before, the presence of NATO or the EU.” the former candidate for the presidency transmitted.
Crin Antonescu also claims that Romania is out of the socket.
“In order to decide, you have to have information and power. We can only issue opinions. Today, Romania is not only inactive. It is out of the socket. Although the general frame (NATO and EU belonging, as well as the strategic partnership – however – with the US) we place us in the best position in history, we have nothing to do with the foreign. It meant the effort to support Ukraine from Romania. Antonescu said.
Crin Antonescu strengthened his attacks on President Nicușor Dan
Directly criticizing President Nicușor Dan, Antonescu draws an alarm signal on the lack of political vision, the deficient management of foreign policy and the inability to truly lead the country.
“Romania has no president. After two presidents with unfortunate mandates, but not insignificant, at present, with Nicușor Dan, I failed in the caricature. It is beyond any imagination as Romania has reached. Everything seems like a farce. But any farce ends quickly, while it has just started“The former candidate said directly.
About the political situation in Romania, Antonescu claims that we are witnessing a “media orchestrated delirium”
Asked about the austerity measures that make the economy recovery, the former head of the Senate and former PNL president also directly attacks Ilie Bolojan, the current leader of the Liberals.
“We live in a media orchestrated delirium, located in an obvious field parallel to reality. And propaganda, and Mr. Bolojan maintain a confusion between punctual measures to reduce the deficit and the concept of” reform “. There is no reform plan, there is only one communist propagandistic campaign, with hysterical accents around the idea of ”cutting”. As there is no more (as much as it was) the slightest idea in foreign politics, there is no development vision or, if you insist, reform in the Romanian economy and administration. Obviously, Mr. Bolojan is not the only one responsible. But I have, more and more often, the impression that it is pleased in the situation where, trying to repair some broken pipes, it is taken as an architect of the whole building ” replied Crin Antonescu.
What Crin Antonescu perceives his failure in the presidential elections in Romania
“The candidacy was, for me, a strong, spectacular, absolutely unexpected experience, I discovered new things about Romania (most, good), about new people, myself. I am reconciled, no one can say that I could do something. The option of the electorate and life continues as it knows and can do it. said Crin Antonescu.
Crin Antonescu managed to dynamite the ruling coalition by ranking in 3rd place in the presidential elections 2025, at that time, both in PSD and PNL asking for heads.
