The English actor Landa Stamp, known for the negative role of General Zod in Superman films, has died at the age of 87, his family announced.

Over more than sixty years of activity, Stamp has played in numerous successful film productions. These include The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Far from the Madding Crowd, Young Guns, The Limey and Valkyrie, where he played with Tom Cruise.
His latest role was in the horror psychological film Last Night in Soho (2021), directed by Edgar Wright, along with Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith.
Prizes and international recognition
Stamp was nominated for Oscar and Bafta for his role in Billy Budd (1962), a film for which he won the Golden Globe in the category “The most promising debut”. In 1965 he received the prize for best actor at the Cannes Festival for the interpretation in The Collector.
Subsequently, he obtained a new BAFTA nomination in 1994 for his role in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, where he played alongside Hugo Weaving and Guy Pears.
Stamp also became famous for his relationship with actress Julie Christie, with whom she formed one of the brightest couples of Great Britain and with whom she played in Far the Madding Crowd (1967).
