The project for the magistrates’ reform was bypassed by opposition to the submission of censorship motions as a result of assuming the Government’s responsibility in Parliament. As a result, the initiative passes the Parliament.

The project increases the retirement age of the magistrates to 65 years in 10 years and decreases the value of the pensions they can benefit from 70% of the last net salary. Thus it generated harsh reactions from the judicial system and led to the triggering of large protests. Courts and prosecutor’s offices have suspended their activity throughout the country.

The government led by Ilie Bolojan has assumed responsibility in Parliament on 5 projects of the 6 initially proposed. The only project that remained in the coalition debate is the reform of the local administration.

The opposition has submitted censorship motion for assuming liability on 4 projects, the pensions of the magistrates being a project on which it is a wide political consensus.
