Romanians could have a new day. A PSD senator has submitted a project through which the first day of school is free for parents

September 13, 2025

A PSD senator proposes that the first day of school will be declared a free day for parents, claiming that the state must support the family, in the context in which similar initiatives have been previously rejected, the argument being that most teachers are also parents.

Legislative initiative of a PSD senator: free day for parents on the first day of school

PSD Senator Claudiu-Daniel Catană submitted to the Senate a legislative initiative proposing that the first day of the school year should be free for parents. The measure would be applied to employees who have children in pre -school, primary and secondary education, according to romaniatv.net.

“The opening festivity of each school year represents a moment loaded with emotions, both for children and parents. Most of the time, the strongest emotions are trying to ask the most questions:” Will my child in kindergarten/school? “Will” cry “? These are just some of the thoughts that knead the parents.

(…) Unfortunately, the beginning of the school year coincides with a working day, and that parents can be present at the festivity, they need to take a day off of the rest or to be sent from the workplace. There were few cases when the employer refused the invocation or even sanctioned a possible delay of the employee ”is shown in the exposure of reasons of the project.

The project is currently in the Senate, where the parliamentary procedures are to be established for the next period.

“Every child needs the emotional support of parents at such an important moment. We are not just talking about a festive event, we talk about a life stage that leaves fingerprints. The state must be the family partner, not an obstacle to her way.

I will fight for this initiative to become law. I believe in an educational system that starts with the right, along with parents, not in their absence ”wrote Claudiu-Daniel Catană on Facebook.
