However, the first day of school started with large protests. Thousands of teachers gathered in Victoriei Square in Bucharest, where the rally organized by the Federation of Free Education Unions (FSLI), the “Spiru Haret” Federation and the “Alma Mater” Federation began.
The protest was followed by a march to the Cotroceni Palace, attended by teachers, students and students. In Cotroceni, the trade union leaders discussed with President Nicușor Dan.
The discussions started from 13.40 and participated Simion Hăncescu (FSLI), Marius Nistor from Spiru Haret, Anton Hadăr from Alma Mater, according to Bogdan Manea, President FSLI Dolj.
“The protests continue”, I say unionists. The crowd began to chant the “general strike”.
“I asked for the resignation of Minister Daniel David. I did not like that it was not a sharp (no President Nicușor Dan). He wants to think. With the minister I have not spoken for ten days”said the leader of the Alma Mater Federation, Anton Hadăr, to the exit from the discussions with the president.
The Minister of Education, Daniel David, commented on the threats of the teachers regarding a possible boycott of the courses. The official says that “the school continues” and that he trusted that the teachers will respect their “professional debt and the moral obligation” towards the students.
“My joy is that on the first day the children were received in schools. Tomorrow things continue normally. I doubt they are teachers who will go in class, and they will only watch the children, without holding hours.”said the minister.
