The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, said on the Insider Politic show on Prima TV that he followed a master’s degree in clinical research, during which he met Professor Dorel Săndesc and wanted to work as a researcher. However, he was convinced to practice medicine, thus arriving at the ATI department. Rogobete stated that he did not practice medicine intensively, focusing more on developing skills in management and administration.

The Minister of Health was asked why he chose intensive therapy out of all the specializations in medicine.
“First of all, I chose medicine because I knew Anesthesia and Intensive Care. My first faculty is chemistry and with a master’s degree in clinical research, and that’s how I met professor Săndesc, where I wanted to work as a researcher, initially, and he convinced me to practice medicine and that’s how I ended up in Intensive Care, at ATI, where I didn’t practice much because I had administrative valences, I could say, maybe native, I don’t know, always”, said Alexandru Rogobete.
He explained how he came to develop his skills in the area of management and administration.
“From the 3rd year of college, I was a clinical intern in an internship program with an American company where I worked for almost three and a half years, where I interacted a lot with development projects with the World Bank. And obviously I developed my skills in the area of management and in the area of administration and development and research in general. That’s how I ended up in the Ministry of Health, advisor to the Secretary of State, Dr. Garofil, in 2020, in full pandemic”.
Asked what he likes more, being a doctor or the administrative side, the Minister of Health answered: “The administrative part, certainly, this is also the reason why I gave up medicine, I gave up residency and chose the administrative path, but medical knowledge, knowledge from a hospital in the intensive care unit, medical flows and everything that means the organizational area if you want, administrative in a hospital, helps me immensely”.
