“The Aging and Employment Policy Recommendation calls on states to extend working lives, protect older workers and ensure continued access to training. We need to come up with incentives to stay in work beyond the standard retirement age,” he explained.

Also, during the same event, Victor Negrescu, vice-president of the European Parliament, stated that Romania needs an active aging policy: access to medical services, long-term care, programs to combat loneliness, etc. According to the Brussels official, as Vice-President of the European Parliament, he requested “for Europe to address the issue of intergenerational equity. The conclusions are clear: demographic changes are rapid and irreversible, and the differences between generations very large. Romania is at a critical point. About 20% of the population is over 60 years old. The number of elderly people exceeds that of children. In rural areas it is even worse”.

At the same time, Ciprian Nicolae Văcaru, secretary of state in the Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity, emphasized the fact that Romania benefits from financing through PNRR and European funds, for aging policies.
