A human washing machine, shown at Expo 2025 in Osaka, is now for sale, priced at around 332,000 euros. The first model was presented at the Osaka exhibition in 1970.
The user must sit in a capsule whose lid closes; washing with water jets is accompanied by music and is not followed by wringing. During the process, several vital parameters are monitored, such as the pulse, writes Agerpres.
The first model was presented at the previous exhibition in Osaka, in 1970. The current version is modernized.
“Our president (of the Science company – n. ed.) was inspired when he was ten years old,” said spokeswoman Sachiko Maekura, who claimed that the machine “doesn’t just wash the body, but also the soul.”
Science, which has only 80 employees, decided to put the product on the market after it was contacted by an American hotel chain interested in commercializing the prototype.
However, only about 50 pieces will be produced, because “the car’s appeal lies partly in its rarity”, Maekura explained. According to local media, the price would be 60 million yen, which is approximately 332,000 euros.
Among the first buyers was a hotel in Osaka, where laundry service is soon to be offered to customers.
The Japanese electronics distribution chain Yamada Denki will try to bring more people to the stores with the help of the new washing machine.
The Osaka exhibition, which closed in October, lasted six months and attracted around 27 million visitors. Many of them stood in long queues to see the prototype of the human washing machine.
