Dressed in a long shepherd’s coat, made of sheep fur, Diana Șoșoacă arrived in Alba Iulia on December 1, late compared to the other sovereignist leaders who were participating in the demonstrations dedicated to the National Day. She entered the city in the midst of her own supporters, while from a portable speaker carried on her shoulder by one of them, the patriotic song “Treceți Romanian battalions pass the Carpathians” rang out continuously.
While Călin Georgescu and George Simion had already arrived in the area of the Coronation Cathedral, Diana Șoșoacă was observed in the sector of the Citadel ditches, accompanied by gendarmes, who kept her column at a distance from the central area, where the other sovereignist leaders were, while spectators chanted her name or patriotic slogans such as “Long live Moldova, Transylvania and Wallachia”, and others “Călin Georgescu president”.
Anamaria Gavrila, the leader of the POT party, was also noted among the participants, which means that all the sovereignist formations are represented in Alba Iulia.
The numerous mobilization of Călin Georgescu’s supporters, those of AUR and Diana Șoșoăca’s sympathizers led the law enforcement to strengthen security measures to prevent any incident.
The atmosphere in the city, which should have been sober and pious towards those who made the union possible, acquired a strong political charge, in a way not seen since the 90s. Even in the courtyard of the Coronation Cathedral, before the Te Deum service, chants were heard demanding the resignation of President Nicușor Dan and Ilie Bolojan and messages of support for Călin Georgescu, which accentuates the political character of the moment.
