Video The CCR delay risks blocking important funds. Bolojan warns: “We can no longer recover the more than 200 million euros”

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan drew attention to the consequences of delaying a decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the appeal of unconstitutionality related to magistrates’ pensions. The Head of the Executive explained that, if the problem is not resolved quickly, the country will no longer be able to recover the more than 200 million euros withheld for this milestone, which would significantly affect the budget and development plans.

“If the decision of the Constitutional Court is delayed, we will enter an area where we will no longer be able to recover the more than 200 million euros that we have withheld for the milestone related to magistrates’ pensions. This is an effect, we have an interim period in which you can still respond to clarifications, but if this issue is not resolved, this, unfortunately, will be a very likely effect.” said Bolojan on Radio Romania Current Affairs.

The Head of the Executive explained the importance of the legislative package on the administration.

“Regarding the package on the administration, it has some important effects, not only directly on the budget, but also on the budget, but it has system effects, because it changes the approach in the administration in Romania. And so it is a very important package, because otherwise you are put in a position to build budgets that are not based on predictable aspects. The budget is built on the laws that are in force at the time, so you need all the laws that have a budgetary impact to be approved, and in order to have predictability, to respect our commitments in such a way as to reduce the interest that Romania pays semester by semester, we must respect our targets. Respecting a commitment is a proof of seriousness and predictability”. Bolojan specified.

Asked if the budget can be adopted in February, even if the CCR decision will be postponed or the law on the reform of the administration will not be finalized, Bolojan replied that “the budget should be adopted under normal conditions”

“Regardless of what happens in the next period, the budget should be adopted under normal conditions as soon as possible. The budget was not adopted, because the administration package was not supported by all parties”, stated the head of the Government.

Bolojan stated that the administration package is now supported by all parties, as a result of technical and political discussions

“Now it is a result of the, on the one hand, technical discussions that have taken place, because there are all kinds of solutions related to how to make the reduction in the administration. The reductions are always not very convenient neither to support nor to do. On the other hand, several economic recovery packages have been discussed, which I personally support as long as they are made in such a way that their impact does not create problems of budget balances and, indeed, they go in directions that have a potential for multiplication in the Romanian economy”, explained the prime minister.
