Alexandru Nazare: There is no question of changing Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. Stability is essential for Romania

The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, declared on Monday evening that within the National Liberal Party there is no discussion regarding a possible change of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, stressing that the Government needs stability to continue its reform agenda.

Invited to Antena 3, Nazare stated that “no discussion” for a prime minister with results to be called into question, especially in the current economic and political context.

“Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan had an extremely important role. He led this process, talked with all the parties and managed to maintain an important balance. From all the information I have, in the PNL there is no question of a prime minister with results being put at risk”, said the Minister of Finance.

Nazare insisted on the importance of governmental stability, showing that it is essential both for the economy and for Romania’s credibility abroad. According to the minister, including foreign investors have sent clear messages in this regard.

“Stability is needed. Both the parties and the country benefit from stability. Investors constantly talk to us about this, and major objectives such as joining the OECD or accessing European funds depend on maintaining a predictable climate”, Nazare explained.

The liberal official criticized, at the same time, the appearance in the public space of speculations regarding tensions within the governing coalition, stating that such discussions can negatively affect Romania.

“I don’t think it would be beneficial for Romania to discuss a change of prime minister. These accusations or discussions in the media related to the stability of the coalition are, unfortunately, forms of self-sabotage. We can all win if we stay together and follow a common direction”, Alexandru Nazare added.

The statements come in the context of speculations that have recently appeared in the public space regarding possible tensions in the governing coalition and scenarios related to the leadership of the Executive.
