“The glass is full.” Thousands of people protested in Miercurea Ciuc against the increase in fees and taxes

More than 2,000 people participated in a protest against the increase in fees and taxes in Miercurea Ciuc on Saturday.

More than 2,000 people gathered in the Freedom Square in the center of the city and criticized both the fiscal measures of the Bolojan Government and the involvement of the UDMR in the governing coalition, which they said did not react to these decisions, writes Mediafax.

János Menyhárt, the organizer of the protest, read a message in Hungarian and Romanian and said that the demonstration is not political, but a civic one. He stated that “the glass was filled”, adding that “people don’t want to do politics, they want to live in safety.”

A woman present at the protest said that local politicians no longer defend the interests of the people and that they have them “betrayed by the Szeklers, the Hungarians and the Romanians”.

Representatives of associations for people with disabilities also participated in the protest. They said that the Government has removed tax facilities for a category that lives on very low incomes anyway. Participants displayed signs with messages such as: “We didn’t destroy the country’s economy”, “Disability is not a privilege”, “We also wanted to be born healthy” and “You took away our right to life”.

Mayor Korodi Attila said that people’s grievances are “justified” and that the local government will intervene when there is a legal solution. He specified that, for disabled people, the loss of some facilities would be compensated by social aids.
