After a debut that attracted more than 80 guests from 12 countries and more than 5000 participants during the 4 days of events, NOD – International Literary Rights Festival is preparing for the second edition that will take place this year as well in the last weekend of September, in Brașov.
The festival wants to make a knot between literature, theater and film, fields that it brings together under the umbrella of copyright, thus creating a tradition for professionals, but also a wonderful meeting place for the general public eager for quality cultural experiences.
“NOD Festival responds to a need of the industry and has become, since the first edition, a success story. We wanted the festival to have a professional component that was missing from the Romanian landscape. Thus, we launched an Open Call for manuscripts, an opportunity for Romanian authors to come into direct contact with publishers and literary agents to whom they can present original works, thus taking a first step towards publication. We did not expect that things would become so connected quickly, but we can boast of already completed projects”, say Liviana TANEthe founder of the festival.

The first concrete result was the publication of the volume for children “Eskimo”of Oxana Greadcencowhich Vellant publishing house launched it in just two months, at Gaudeamus. The book is available in bookstores and was extremely well received by readers in Romania, the Republic of Moldova and the Netherlands.
“The appearance of NOD was a great opportunity for me and for the two manuscripts I submitted. First, because I didn’t have to wait months for the manuscript to get into the hands of a publisher. And then, because it’s a rare chance to convince an editor, face to face, that your story deserves attention: to show how much you believe in it and how willing you are to work side by side with an editor to make it better. I am grateful to the people at Vellant for adopting Eskimos, the character of my children’s book, but also for taking on my debut novel, which will be published this year.” (Oxana Greadcencoauthor)

Of the more than 115 manuscripts received, 35 were selected by the organizers and their authors were connected with publishers and literary agents. Another six works will be published in the next period as a result of the pitching sessions organized at the NOD Festival.
“After the exhilarating success of the first edition of the NOD International Literary Rights Festival, we are deeply grateful for the energy, curiosity and energetic dialogue that the participants, guests and partners brought to Brașov. NOD was born from the desire to create a festival that transcends the traditional boundaries of cultural events, a space where literature openly converses with film, theatre, music and creative industries.
During the four days of meetings, debates, workshops and professional events, we saw how ideas connect with each other, how conversations about copyright, creative careers and new directions of cultural industries generate new perspectives, authentic connections and concrete opportunities for collaboration. This first edition shows us that there is a real appetite – both among professionals and the general public – for a dynamic, open and relevant culture.
Thank you to all the authors, artists, publishers, agents, curators and participants who chose to be a part of this experience. The NOD Festival aims not only to celebrate literature and intellectual property, but also to be a sustainable platform for growth, dialogue and cultural transformation. Future editions excite us, as does strengthening this wonderful community.” (MATCA team, main partner NOD Festival)
“NOD was a bet with ourselves. An experiment through which we wanted to prove that we can change things for the better. We wanted, first of all, to correct the undeserved perception of culture in general and literature in particular, and we gave it the attention it deserves, in a refined and fresh space, in the heart of the country. Brașov proved to be the perfect host and we are honored and grateful to have been received so warmly by our Brașov partners, as well as the general public.” (Liviana TANEfounder of NOD Festival)
Organized by Reading is Cool and jelly, NOD – International Literary Rights Festival aims to connect the worlds of those who write, publish, sell and promote books, so that stories fulfill their destiny and reach the hands of readers as quickly as possible. Now in its second edition, NOD wants to encourage the emergence of new collaborations and new forms of expression in culture. It is a brave project, which aims to connect professionals from the literary field and artists from fields influenced by literature – music, theater, film – with the culture-consuming public.
