The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, reaffirmed on Friday that he is opposed to the 10% reduction of expenses in the health system and emphasized that he will not approve any normative act that provides for such a measure. The minister warned that a cut “lump sum” would generate “an unprecedented crisis”.
“I have been saying for several weeks that the 10% decrease, the flat-rate decrease in the health system, by 10% of the health system’s revenues, would create and generate an unprecedented crisis in the system. Because the health system, first of all, has certain peculiarities, it is an emergency system, it is a critical system, on the one hand.
On the other hand, the shortage of personnel in the health system is a well-known one, both in terms of doctors, but also nurses, nurses, chemists, biochemists, please, the entire medical staff has a problem from this point of view. The guards, and you know well, because we have had such situations recently in many health facilities, the guards cannot be covered because the human resource is insufficient”, the minister declared on Friday, according to News.ro.
Rogobete also specified that the rates for guards paid in 2026 are calculated at the level of 2017.
The minister reiterated that he will not approve an emergency ordinance of the Government of Romania if it includes a 10% reduction in health income. “I have no way of agreeing to this lump-sum reduction and cutting the income of the medical staff by 10%. I have said this publicly every time and I will continue to say it”said Rogobete.
The Ministry of Development has published, for the sake of transparency, a draft law on administrative measures to increase the financial capacity and make the public administration more efficient, which provides for a 10% reduction in personnel expenses in the central public administration and the reduction of the number of posts at the local level.
On Thursday, the spokesperson of the Government, Ioana Dogioiu, declared that the administration reform would most likely be adopted by emergency ordinance, citing calendar constraints and the need for a quick entry into force to contribute to next year’s budget. Also, a meeting of the coalition on this subject is possible next week.
