Former figure skater, robbed and brutally murdered. She was shot in her own car, only 28 years old

Gabrielle Linehan, a former U.S. figure skater and part of the United States team that won the silver medal at the 2014 national championships, was fatally shot at just 28 years old.

The tragedy happened in broad daylight in the parking lot of a cafe in Saint Louis, Missouri. Gabrielle Linehan was in her car, getting ready for a new day, when a man in a reflective vest and hard hat approached and pulled out a gun.

Although he tried to defend himself and raised his hands, gunfire took his life. Gabrielle Linehan was rushed to the hospital, but the athlete’s condition was extremely serious, and her death was later confirmed.

The perpetrator of the attack was later identified as Keith Lamon Brown, who was arrested immediately after the incident, according to The Sun. After shooting her, the man stole several of her credit cards. Brown already had a criminal record for two armed robberies.

Brown, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree robbery, four counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the deaths of Linehan and three other robbery victims, according to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE.
