The National Audiovisual Council applied several sanctions following the public meeting on Tuesday, March 3, after analyzing some monitoring reports and notifications received regarding the content broadcast by several TV stations and online platforms. Realitatea Plus received a fine of 2,500 lei, and Romania TV was fined 20,000 lei.
The decisions concern both violations of audiovisual legislation and non-compliance with the obligations of notification or public communication of sanctions.
Realitatea Plus, fined 2,500 lei
The station Realitatea Plus was fined again for not publicly broadcasting the text of a sanctioning decision, as required by law. The obligation applies to both the Tu decizi YouTube channel and the Realitatea Plus TikTok account. The new fine comes in the context in which the station had already been punished with the suspension of the broadcast for 3 hours, after, in November 2025, the station violated the principle of impartiality, intensively promoting Anca Alexandrescu for the Capital City Hall.
“Fine of 2,500 lei to the station Realitatea Plus, for non-compliance with the provisions of Article 93^1 paragraph (1) of the Audiovisual Law No. 504/2002, according to which “The broadcaster to whom a sanction has been applied or a legal summons has been addressed by the Council has the obligation to communicate to the public the reasons and object of the sanction or summons, in the form sent by the Council”. The broadcaster did not broadcast the text of the sanctioning decision on the Tu decizi (YouTube) and Realitatea Plus (TikTok) channels”, it is shown on the CNA Facebook page.
Romania TV, fined 20,000 lei
And the Romania TV station was sanctioned for violating the provisions regarding correct information.
“The National Broadcasting Council analyzed the reports drawn up by the Monitoring Directorate as a result of the self-notification and the notifications received and decided to apply the following sanctions: a fine of 20,000 lei to the Romania TV station for non-compliance with the provisions of Article 43 paragraph (2) and Article 82 paragraph (1) letter b) of the Audiovisual Content Regulatory Code when broadcasting informational programs «Romania TV news» from 23.01.2026. Among the news headlines presented were: «Resist from the Environment another water crisis»; “Allegations: Investments from 11 dams, totally blocked»; «Water supply at risk»; «The water crisis into which the news reporter Rezist throws us again»; «11 dams blocked by the minister, water supply in danger»“.
Subpoenas for online platforms and media service providers
CNA has issued a public summons to PHG Media-Invest SRL, the administrator of the YouTube channels Tu decizi, Realitatea pe Net and the Realitatea Plus TikTok account.
“The audiovisual media service provider violated the provisions of Article 74 paragraph (5) of the Audiovisual Law, according to which «The person who intends to provide audiovisual media services on demand has the obligation to send to the Council, at least 7 days before the start of the activity, a notification regarding this intention, which must contain at least the data mentioned in art. 48 lit. a) – c)»“, states CNA.
Action against illegal content
The Board decided to issue an action order against the material “12 Water Brands You Should Avoid“, published on the Ce Mâncăm YouTube channel. CNA considered that the material violates the provisions on the protection of the public and asked the platform to verify the authenticity of the account.
Subpoenas for broadcasters and distributors
Two companies received public summonses for non-compliance with legal obligations: Elit Media Advertising SRL (Radiofir Dej) – for non-compliance with audiovisual authorization procedures and TV Sat 2002 SRL (Râmnicu Sărat) – for non-compliance with the obligation to include in the retransmission offer at least two regional programs and two local programs, where they exist. The term of entry into legality is 30 days.
