Soloist Alexandra Căpitănescu, winner of the Eurovision 2026 National Selection, told Click! what changes could be made to the piece prepared for the competition in Vienna in May. He also told how he came to participate in Eurovision.
Under the slogan “United by Music”, the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will take place in Vienna, with the semi-finals on May 12 and 14 and the final on May 16. Romania to enter the first part of the semifinal with number 2 of the contest, on May 14, 2026.
The final took place on Thursday, March 4, and the national jury decided that among the 12 finalists, the song “Choke Me”, performed by Alexandra Căpitănescu, should be sent to the semifinals of the competition.
The winning song offers a deep and personal message built around inner struggle and self-discovery.
Alexandra Căpitănescu was asked by Click! how he felt after hearing that he won the final.
“I feel very good! I’m very happy! I dreamed of this moment, because as I said it’s free to dream. I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow morning, talk to my colleagues, the team, let’s see what we do next.”
She says that it is not certain that the song for Eurovision will be changed.
“I said I had some ideas, but I didn’t say it would change! Wait, we’re consulting! That’s why the Eurovision fan group on Facebook exists, we all have to team up because it’s about Romania.”
When asked what place she aims for at Eurovision, she says that she is not focused on the ranking, but on achieving a very good moment on stage in Vienna.
“I aim for the moment to come out very well and the place comes automatically. Our goal is for the moment in Vienna to be very good, to be a good moment for Romania, and the Universe takes care of the rest.”
He also says that he has emotions every time he goes on stage, and at this competition the emotions were combined with excitement.
“Every time I get emotions when I go on stage! Now it was emotions combined with excitement. This is what I love to do, to be on stage, to be a performer. I fell in love with this thing from a young age.”
Alexandra Căpitănescu confessed that the idea to participate came from the fact that she is a big fan of Eurovision. He has been following the contest since 2017, and first discovered Eurovision as a child.
