Teo Trandafir spoke openly about some of the most important moments in his life, including the adoption of his daughter, Maia (21 years old), but also about the young woman’s biological mother.
Guest on the podcast “Mom by Nicoleta Luciu”Teo Trandafir told that, through a friend, he found out about a woman who was about to give birth and who wanted to give her child up for adoption. From that moment on, Teo felt that Maia would become his daughter. The TV presenter never met the woman who gave birth to Maia.
“A friend called me and said: “I have a woman in front of me who wants to give the child up for adoption. Do you know anyone?” (…) I knew for sure that it was Maia. Everyone scolded me for not having tests, for not knowing if it’s a girl or a boy. I told them: “I know very well who she is. She’s mine””said Teo Trandafir.
Asked what happened afterwards, the TV star said: “It just so happened that she was born (…) And I knew she was mine. It was something made in heaven, I mean… there is no such thing! People who imagine that adoption is a kind of shopping are very wrong. No, the child is yours or not.”
Nicoleta Luciu: “So you went after that and what did you do? You started dating that mom?”
Teo Trandafir: “I haven’t seen her in forever. I don’t know who she is.”
Nicoleta Luciu: “So you haven’t seen Maia’s mother until today?”
Teo Trandafir: “No. Maia’s mother is me. May she be healthy (not biological mother), God help! I never wanted to see her. I didn’t hold any grudges, don’t get me wrong, but I preferred it that way.”
Teo Trandafir became a mother at 36 years old. She wasn’t married, she had a lot of plans, and a child meant a responsibility she didn’t feel ready for. But, when she received the news that Maia was to be given up for adoption, the TV presenter asked God for a sign, to be sure that she would be able to take care of her and that she would be able to assume the role of a mother.
“It was like this: I was 36 years old, a beastly life and I didn’t want children at all. Because I wasn’t married, because I wasn’t ready for it, because it’s a responsibility that I’m not able to carry. (…) I thought very seriously: “Am I able to take care of myself? Correct answer: No”. I have the stupid habit of not lying, at least to myself. (…) And I realized that an age is coming and I asked: “God, if you think I can do this, give me a sign and I’ll be very careful”said Teo Trandafir a few years ago, during a TV show.
