The Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education “SPIRU HARET” advertise, on Monday, “unprecedented pressures and intimidation” from the management of educational units and school inspectorates for employees to participate in the simulation of national exams.
“The Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education “SPIRU HARET” draw attention to an extremely serious and dangerous phenomenon that is taking place these days in educational institutions in Romania. Although our referendum showed a clear desire to boycott the simulations of national exams, we are assailed by signals that more and more colleagues are being forced to sign for participation. It has reached unprecedented pressures and intimidation from the management of educational units and school inspectorates, greater than during the 2023 strike”the unions in Education sent, on Monday, in a joint press release, News writes.
The trade unionists claim that some managers and inspectors “they chose to transform themselves into instruments of coercion of the Ministry of Education and Research”.
“We send them a clear message: become complicit in the perpetuation of the crisis in education! You are the ones who have chosen to stifle the voice of despair through fear, forcing teachers to perform useless work, unpaid and ignored by many students. We understand the fear of our colleagues, but we want to remind them that our only strength is solidarity. With every step back we take now, we validate their abusive tactics. The choice is in every unit: either we protest and fight for our rights, or we give in to pressure and remain resigned and silent”the trade unionists also sent.
They claim that, through the anti-education measures taken by the Bolojan Government through Law no. 141/2025, employees in the system became the social category with the most dramatic decrease in purchasing power (between 15 and 20%).
“Among the measures taken, we mention: the increase in teaching standards, the overcrowding of primary beneficiaries in the class/group, the merging of educational units, the reduction of the ceiling up to which the food allowance and vacation vouchers are granted, as well as the non-payment of sums derived from court decisions. Boycotting these simulations is a minimal act of dignity, a form of protest that does not affect us financially, but that sends a strong signal. It is only a preliminary test massive protests at the end of the school year”it was stated in the press release.
The trade unionists announce that there will be many educational units where the simulations at the national exams will be boycotted.
“Given the current situation, we are forced to postpone the presentation of the final results of the referendum. We will come up with new details a few days before the simulations”the statement also states.
The National Assessment simulation should take place next week.
