A 70-year-old pensioner went through an extremely difficult surgical intervention at Galati Emergency Hospital, after she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the uterus, which completely covered the left ovary and had merged almost completely with the uterus, radically changing the anatomy of the abdomen.
Surgeon Costantin Truș, who conducted the operation, says that the patient immediately impressed him with her courage and determination.
“Within five minutes of talking she showed me that she was mentally prepared to fight for her lifeeh”, says the doctor.
The patient even asked him to send “the monster straight in the bin”, and the doctor replied with humor: “Now let’s evacuate the uninvited guest. He’s bothered you enough and is keeping you busy!”.
From the beginning, the medical team was faced with unexpected surprises: the tumor behaved like a real one “monster” inside the abdomen, making it difficult to identify the uterus, ovaries and bladder.
“I can’t believe this! The tumor has fused with the uterus to the point of integration. Basically, what was seen on the CT scan was just one end…the rest, not that it had molded to the uterus. It’s basically fused.”said the doctor.
After a difficult intervention, doctors managed to completely remove the uterus, preventing major complications. Part of the ovary had already been absorbed by the tumor.
“The perfect criminal. It attacked the tissue, replaced it perfectly, at least physically… look, it has the same elasticity, the same look. If it wasn’t for that six-inch growth, it could have gone unnoticed for a long time.”said the gynecologist.
The woman was later transferred to Intensive Care, and her evolution is favorable, being prepared for the continuation of oncological treatment.
“The first confrontation with the disease has been won. Now the oncological treatment follows, and the hope is that the fight will be completely won”concluded surgeon Costantin Truș.
