The process of enrolling children in primary education for the 2026–2027 school year begins in March 2026 and includes several stages established by the Ministry of Education. School inspectorates and schools will have to display the school districts.
From March 12, the preparation of the enrollment process in primary education begins, and school units and inspectorates will display the school constituencies, the number of preparatory classes in 2026 and information about the program and the school offer, according to the enrollment calendar in primary education for the 2026–2027 school year, published by the Ministry of Education.
The calendar established by the Ministry of Education includes deadlines for displaying school constituencies, submitting enrollment applications and assigning children to educational institutions.
How to find out which school your street belongs to
In Bucharest, each address is assigned to a certain state school, called a constituency school, i.e. the educational unit located in the vicinity of the student’s home. To find out which school their street belongs to, parents can use several methods. One of them is the consultation of the lists of school constituencies, which will be published on the website of the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest.
They can also check the lists of the streets surrounding each school, published on the websites of the educational units, or the information published by the sector town halls.
Included in these documents are all the streets surrounding each school, so that parents can identify the educational unit corresponding to their address.
“The parent can opt: 1. for enrollment at the constituency school: in this situation, the child is automatically enrolled, based on the validation of the enrollment request; 2. for an educational unit, other than the constituency school: in this situation, the child is enrolled within the limit of free places and, if applicable, based on the general criteria and, subsequently, on the specific tie-breaking criteria”, informed the Ministry of Education.
How you can enroll your child in another school district
Also, parents can request, by ticking the registration form, that the place at the constituency school be reserved in the event that the child is not enrolled at the educational unit for which the parents have made the option, due to a lack of free places.
Enrollments take place at the headquarters of the educational units where the parent wishes to enroll the child. Enrollment-type applications can be completed and validated directly at the educational unit where the parent wishes to enroll the child. They can also be completed online, but must be validated at the school.
Enrollment-type applications can be completed online on the inscriere.edu.ro website, but after completing them, parents must go to the educational unit for which they want to enroll the child, in order to validate the application.
In the first stage of enrollment, schools are obliged to accept children who live in their constituency. After this stage, if there are still free places, educational institutions can also accept children from other areas, based on criteria established by each school.
These may include, for example, the existence of a brother or sister enrolled in the same school, the proximity of the residence to the educational facility or other criteria approved by the school board.
Children to be enrolled in school in 2026
In the 2026–2027 school year, children who turn 6 by August 31, 2026 inclusive must be enrolled in the preparatory class.
Children who turn 6 between September 1 and December 31, 2026 can also be enrolled, under certain conditions.
“Children who turn 6 years old between September 1 and December 31, 2026, based on the recommendation for enrollment in primary education (issued by preschool education units) or based on the evaluation of the County Center for Educational Resources and Assistance/Bucharest City Center for Educational Resources and Assistance (CJRAE/CMBRAE), as the case may be”, transmits the Ministry of Education and Research.
The calendar published by the Ministry of Education for the enrollment of children in primary education in the 2026–2027 school year sets out the main stages and deadlines that parents and schools must respect.
Calendar of enrollments in the preparatory class in 2026
The process starts on March 12, 2026, when the school districts and school plan, i.e. the number of preparatory classes available at each school, will be displayed. Educational units will also publish information about the organization of the preparatory class, including the possibility of the “School after school” program or images of the spaces where the students will learn.
On 13 March 2026 the application forms for the assessment of the development of children who turn six between 1 September and 31 December 2026 will be published, and from 16 March schools will announce the tie-breaking criteria used when the number of applications exceeds the available places.
Between March 16-30, 2026, the evaluation of children who could enter school earlier takes place, and by March 31, the evaluation results are sent to the school inspectorates.
The submission of enrollment applications starts on March 31 and ends on May 6, 2026. During this period, parents can fill in the form of enrollment for the preparatory class online or at school.
The first stage of registration takes place between 6 and 21 May 2026, when children are assigned to the constituency school or, if there are places available, to other educational units requested by the parents. Also on May 21, the lists of enrolled children and the remaining free places will be displayed.
For children who were not allocated in the first stage, the second stage of registration takes place between 22 May and 16 June 2026, when new applications can be submitted for the remaining available places. The final lists of students enrolled in the preparatory class will be displayed on June 16, 2026.
For exceptional situations, school inspectorates will resolve the requests of parents of children who have not yet been enrolled in an educational unit between September 1–4, 2026, before the start of the new school year.
