Craiova University, seen by many as the main favorite to win the title, stumbled in the first match of the play-off. Olteni lost at home, 0-1 against FC Argeş, in a match that was theoretically the easiest in the final phase of the championship.
The only goal of the game was scored by the Tunisian Adel Bettaieb (26), with a vault over the goalkeeper Laurentiu Popescu, after a ball lost by the Craiova in the construction. The leader dominated the game territorially, but performed modestly and failed to create scoring opportunities. Olten were close to equalizing only twice, when the Palestinian Assad Al-Hamlawi fought from 5 meters (min. 32) and in the fourth minute of extra time, when Nsimba’s shot was rejected by the goalkeeper Cătălin Căbuz.
Following this result, the fight for the title was opened for all teams qualified for the play-offs. Craiova University remained in first place, with 30 points, and FC Argeș came close to only two points, climbing to 2nd place in the Superliga.
