American billionaire Mark Cuban claims that the global enthusiasm for humanoid robots is overstated and that this technological direction could be coming to a swift end.
“Everybody’s doing this humanoid robot thing. I think they might have a lifespan of 5 years, maybe 10, after which they’ll fail miserably,” the businessman declared in an online show.
The statement comes at a time when major companies such as Tesla and OpenAI are investing heavily in the development of humanoid robots, counting on their integration into everyday life.
In Cuban’s opinion, the future of robotics does not lie in imitating the human form, but in creating systems adapted to the environment in which they operate. It proposes a different approach, where robots and spaces are simultaneously designed for maximum efficiency.
Thus, homes could be completely rethought, and robots could have shapes inspired by nature, such as insects, being specialized for precise tasks, carried out mostly outside the space intended for humans, according to business insider.
A relevant example is provided by Amazon, which already uses more than a million robots in its warehouses, without them having a human form. Their role is strictly functional: they sort, transport and organize the goods.
