A survey conducted by Avangarde in March 2026 indicates a high level of pessimism among the population. The majority of Romanians are dissatisfied with the direction of the country, with the activity of the Government and that of the Prime Minister.
To the question “From your point of view, is the direction in which Romania is heading a good one or a wrong one?“, the Romanians answered clearly: 79% believe that the direction is wrong, while only 18% think it is a good one. 3% said they could not appreciate or did not answer.
Strong dissatisfaction with the Government
Regarding the activity of the Government led by Ilir Bolojan, the answers indicate a majority dissatisfaction. Only 1% of respondents declared themselves “very satisfied” and 17% “rather satisfied”.
On the other hand, 37% say they are “rather dissatisfied“, and 43% “totally unsatisfied“. Another 2% chose the option “I don’t know/I don’t answer“.
Unfulfilled expectations: almost half of Romanians are disappointed
Asked whether, relative to expectations at the start of 2025, they were satisfied or disappointed with the current government, 48% of respondents said they were “rather disappointed”.
Only 14% said they were “rather satisfied,” while 36% said they had no expectations. A percentage of 2% did not provide an answer.
Voting intention: AUR and PSD, in the first places
In the scenario of parliamentary elections organized next Sunday, the ranking of voting intention is dominated by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), with 35%, followed by the Social Democratic Party (PSD), with 22%.

In the next positions are PNL, with 14%, and USR, with 11%. UDMR would get 5%, SOS Romania 3%, and SENS and POT 2% each.
Other formations such as Forța Dreptei (FD), PMP and DREPT would register 1% each, and 3% of respondents would vote with other parties.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, evaluated negatively
The activity of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is also viewed critically. Only 1% of respondents say they are “very satisfied” and 20% “rather satisfied”.
In contrast, 24% are “rather dissatisfied” and 49% say they are “not at all satisfied”. A percentage of 5% did not answer or do not know.

Divided opinions on the PSD strategy in the case of the budget
The survey also analyzed Romanians’ opinions regarding PSD’s position if the budget draft did not include the solidarity package.
Thus, 20% believe that the PSD should not vote on the budget. Another 29% believe the party should vote on the budget and then leave the government.
At the same time, 20% are of the opinion that the PSD should vote the budget under any circumstances and remain in government, and 31% do not know or did not answer.
research was conducted by telephone, between March 10-17, 2026, on a sample of 1,000 adults from Romania. The margin of error is ±3% at a 95% confidence level.
