Dacian Cioloș will occupy the position of presidential adviser, after President Nicușor Dan signed the appointment decree and it was published, on Friday, in the Official Gazette.
Dacian Cioloș will be, starting from Monday, April 6, presidential adviser. The decree was signed on Friday by President Nicușor Dan and published in the Official Gazette.
“The President of Romania decrees: Single article – Starting on April 6, 2026, Mr. Dacian-Julien Cioloş is appointed to the position of presidential adviser”, it is shown on the website of the Presidential Administration.
We remind you that Nicușor Dan announced back in March that Dacian Cioloș is Romania’s proposal for the position of Secretary General of the International Organization of Francophonie.
The career of Dacian Cioloș
Born in Zalău, on July 27, 1969, and raised in Pericei commune, Sălaj county, Dacian Cioloș graduated from the Agricultural High School in Șimleu Silvaniei and the Faculty of Horticulture of the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, obtaining the diploma of horticultural engineer. Later, he pursued specialization studies in France at the École nationale supérieure agronomique in Rennes and at the University of Montpellier I, where he obtained a master’s degree in “Economics of agricultural, agri-food and rural development”, according to www.dacianciolos.eu.
His professional career began within the General Directorate for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, where he dealt with the SAPARD program, preparing Romanian agriculture for integration into the Common Agricultural Policy and the European Single Market.
In 2002, he worked at the Delegation of the European Commission in Romania, then, from 2005, he was a personal advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, with the duties of spokesman at the EU Council.
He held the position of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development between 2007 and 2008 and was European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development between 2010 and 2014, during which he carried out the first reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
In 2015, Dacian Cioloș became a special adviser for food security to the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and in November 2015, Klaus Iohannis appointed him Prime Minister of Romania, his mandate ending in January 2017.
In 2019, he was elected MEP on the 2020 USR PLUS Alliance list and president of the “Renew Europe” group in the European Parliament until October 2021.
From March 20, 2025, Cioloș held the position of honorary adviser to the interim president Ilie Bolojan, responsible for the coordination and monitoring of Romania’s strategic partnerships.
