The Dinamo team gallery produced an emotional moment on Thursday, April 9, at the National Arena, at Mircea Lucescu’s catafalque, chanting his name.
“Mircea Lucescu”, chanted the supporters, as can be seen in the images published on social networks, and Răzvan Lucescu was visibly moved at the moment.
They also displayed a banner in the stands: “Il Luce – symbol of respect and a brilliant mind, mentor and benchmark for future generations”.
Outside the stadium, another group of supporters chanted: “Mircea Lucescu! We will always love you!”
Mircea Lucescu died on Tuesday evening, at the age of 80, after being admitted to the Bucharest Emergency University Hospital. The great coach will be buried on April 10, at Bellu Cemetery.
Mircea Lucescu’s history at Dinamo is a long one, started in the 60s. He was registered at the 2 Bucharest Sports School, where he worked for two years, after which he transferred to Dinamo Bucharest in 1963.
He plays here for two years, during which he also makes his debut in Division A (21.06.1964, Dinamo – Rapid, 5-2), after which he is loaned for two years in Division B to Știința Bucharest (later Sportul Studențesc). He then returned to Dinamo where he played until 1977.
He was the oldest player to play in Division A, achieving this feat at the age of 45, for Dinamo, in a match against the Sportul Studențesc team on May 16, 1990, in which he entered the game sheet and came on in the 76th minute, thus overcoming the three-month suspension given by the federation for using players called up to the national team.
He then coached Dinamo Bucharest (from 1986), with which he won a national title (1989-1990) and two Romanian Cups (1985-1986 and 1989-1990), also reaching the semi-finals of the Cup Winners’ Cup (1990).
