Beyond the political conflicts in Bucharest, the figure of Ilie Bolojan manages to attract unexpected respect even from the opposition. Liberal senator Daniel Fenechiu revealed, at Interviurile Adevărul, that AUR leaders show real consideration for the serious administrative style of the prime minister.
In the interview, Fenechiu described Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan as right “a serious guy”, declaring that his work style is responsible and adapted to the current difficult context. Also, according to Fenechiu, AUR respects Ilie Bolojan.
“A certain type of affinities is created that is noticeable. I saw that in the AUR area the respect for the person of Ilie Bolojan is quite high. I was also lucky enough to be around Bolojan when the discussions with the AUR as president of the senate began, when he eliminated 200 posts. (…) People realized that Bolojan is a serious guy”, said the liberal senator.
PNL and AUR: similarities in discourse, but no alliance
Fenechiu admitted that there are certain points in common between PNL and AUR, but ruled out the option of a joint government.
“I’m not saying that a government should be made with GOLD”, he stated, adding that the formation led by George Simion has gone through a change of discourse in recent years.
According to the senator, AUR initially had a strongly Eurosceptic position, and the party’s leader was suspected of having relations with Russia. Currently, however, the formation’s speech would have become more nuanced internationally.
“You will find that the AUR has made its international speech extremely difficult. The AUR at the time it started to be relevant had a major Eurosceptic position (…) Now the AUR has focused on the relationship with the United States, and their language towards the European Union has become much more nuanced”, Fenechiu explained.
Also during the interview, the senator issued an unexpected warning to the Cotroceni Palace, declaring that President Nicușor Dan will bear the full political responsibility for PSD’s actions if he does not give full support to the current prime minister.
The Liberal also warns that any move to bring down the Government now will have immediate economic costs, after the first signals from the stock market have already shown a worsening of investor confidence in the context of the political scandal. The entire interview can be watched HERE.
