Both the president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, and the representatives of the branch on whose lists Victoria Stoiciu ran for parliament asked her to resign from the Parliament.

“I think he’s also resigning from the Senate (no resignation) (…) It’s democracy”was the reaction of the head of the PSD.

Later, the deputy Adrian Solomon, the representative of PSD Vaslui (the branch on whose lists Victoria Stoiciu entered the Parliament), asked Victoria Stoiciu to resign from the Senate.

“I found out, from Facebook, that Mrs. Victoria Stoiciu has principles and red lines that she cannot cross! Then, don’t forget that she was elected on the PSD LIST in Vaslui county! Therefore, she occupies a seat for which the citizens of Vaslui voted for a PSD member! In this case, there can only be one solution for the distinguished lady to remain with her honor intact: RESIGNATION from the Senate”he said in a message posted on Facebook.

Victoria Stoiciu rejected the requests of former party colleagues: “Romania needs social democracy and I remained the only assumed social democrat. I remain independent. We’ll see in the future. Romania needs a left-wing pole, a genuine social-democrat, and I will defend these positions as an independent“, Victoria Stoiciu told Digi24.

The reactions come after PSD senator Victoria Stoiciu announced her resignation from the party on Tuesday, April 28, amid major differences with the social democrats’ political line and collaboration with the AUR.

In a message posted on her Facebook page, she also spoke about the need to maintain a “sanitary cord” towards parties considered extremist, warning of the risks of their normalization in political life.

“I believe that an absolute cordon sanitaire is needed to keep extremist forces in total political isolation. Any violation of this principle is not just a tactical error, but a normalization of fascism. Step by step, until the monster is too big to take down.”said the PSD senator.
