The former Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, sent a message on Monday, May 4, about the functioning of democracy and the role of institutions in the state, in a tense political context marked by the debate of the censure motion against the Government led by Ilie Bolojan. Also on Monday, PSD MPs meet in a meeting.
In a public post, Rogobete warns against the tendency to over-personalize politics and rejects the idea of a “savior” of the political system. He points out that democracy cannot depend on one person, regardless of his popularity or influence.
“There is no “political messiah”, and democracy cannot and must not depend on one man”, conveyed the former minister, who states that a healthy state is not built around leaders, but around stable, predictable and responsible institutions.
In his opinion, the true strength of a democratic state comes from institutional balance and the sharing of responsibilities. Rogobete argues that decisions must be taken at an institutional level, and power must be controlled and distributed, not concentrated.
“In a mature democracy, responsibility must remain collective, not transferred to a ‘saviour’. The balance does not come from a name, but from the way the state works”, he also wrote, emphasizing the importance of clear rules and the correct functioning of institutions.
PSD parliamentarians meet before the vote on the censure motion
The message of the former minister comes against the background of a tense political climate, in which the Parliament is preparing for the vote on the motion of censure submitted against the Government. The senators and deputies of the Social Democratic Party are to meet on Monday, from 15:00, in a decisive internal meeting before the plenary vote.
The PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, and the general secretary of the party, Claudiu Manda, are expected at the talks, who would ensure that the social-democratic parliamentarians will be present and will support the political approach initiated together with the Alliance for the Union of Romanians and the PACE – First Romania formation, according to Agerpres sources.
The motion of censure, entitled “STOP the ‘Bolojan Plan’ of destroying the economy, impoverishing the population and fraudulently selling the state’s wealth”, it was signed by 254 parliamentarians and has already been presented to the assembled plenary session of the Parliament.
The document is to be debated and voted on on Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m., in a secret ballot. The initiators demand the dismissal of the Government and accuse the Prime Minister of ar “confuse reform with selling and strategy with improvisation”.
