Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan arrived, Thursday evening, in Cotroceni, for informal discussions with President Nicușor Dan, in the context of the political crisis generated by the dismissal of the Government through a no-confidence motion.
We remind you that President Nicușor Dan previously received USR President Dominic Fritz and UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor at the Cotroceni Palace during informal consultations in order to identify a governing formula, after the dismissal of the Bolojan cabinet.
According to “Adevărul” information, the head of state would support the idea of restoring the former coalition, formed by PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR.
However, this scenario is complicated by the position expressed by the liberals, who no longer want a governing alliance with the social democrats.
How did Nicușor Dan’s talks with Dominic Fritz and Kelemen Hunor go
According to USR sources, the head of state failed to change the party’s position, which remains firm: it will not participate in any majority where the PSD is, a decision reconfirmed in the Political Committee on Tuesday.
Regarding the discussions with the UDMR leader, sources from within the Union told “Adevărul” that President Nicușor Dan proposed to Kelemen Hunor the restoration of the old coalition, in the same political formula.
However, the UDMR views this option with skepticism, and the idea of a minority government is considered unfeasible.
According to the UDMR leaders, a minority executive would have permanent “sword of Damocles” over the head, through the risk of a censure motion, especially in the context in which the future Government should adopt profoundly unpopular budgetary measures.
Also, the UDMR categorically excludes participating in or supporting a minority government that would depend in Parliament on the votes of the AUR or other extremist formations, such as POT or SOS Romania.
